The guy has power!!
He uses the heel/toe technique on the bass drum which is really very efficient.
i've been tryin' for some time now to use this technique,in order to avoid throwing too much energy in,when i play fast doubles. But it i haven't been very succesful with it so far. It's like, you've played matched grip for 20 years and you want to change to trad.
Changes can be a pain in the a.. sometimes.
Anyways,it works very well for him.Maybe i should kee practisin'.
Thanks for the link.

Dave is hot stuff, he really has been turning heads lately cause he's a "pop drummer" with serious chops. Well, that's what he's being labeled as anyways cause of his gig with Nelly Furtado.
This guy is NOT a pop drummer!

Great technique and very clean and very powerful precise chops, pretty impressive stuff Dave is a Fantastic player! but Virg Land NO! Some of the chops are similar BUT Virg has a rhythmic mastery and depth that is second to none and is completely distinct from the Blazing! chops and lick's that he(Virg) does throw out in his solo's. In fact it is his rhythmic genius that is even more impressive than his obvious chop's.

I had the chance to see and hear Dave Langguth play a clinic in Toronto last November. Wow... !
You cannot judge Dave by the gig with Nelly Furtado. He's a much different drummer on his own. But then, so is Vinnie, Gadd, etc and all those who play with singers for a living.
I hear that he will be giving a clinic in May in a Drum Shop in Kingston, Ontario. I'll give you guys the details when I get them.
Hey guys, great message board !

I meant that his solo goes where Virg goes, sometimes to places that make no sense or nowhere musically.
I judge solos by Tony or Jack or even Buddy, even Neil Peart, who could write complete songs soloing. Virg doesn't seem to tie things together well and it's just a blast of notes. (I'm sure others disagree, so that's that). Virg is an inspiration to me.
That said, I dig Virg but can't take his solos, Langguth is a strong ass player. Really strong, I'd love to hear him in a power fusion setting live just nailing aggressive shit and playing.

Chris Perra posted some fusion-esq clips of Dave a few months ago... did you not see them? I think they were from the drum fest w/ a guitarist playing alongside. Good stuff, amazing trad technique.
